Imaging/cloud seeding • transition

CAS: 7783‑96‑2 Formula: AgI Molar mass: ≈ 234.77 g/mol Photosensitive • protect from light Very low water solubility (Ksp ≪ 10⁻¹⁵) Amber glass • light‑shielded packs Incoterms: FOB/CIF/EXW Ports: Rotterdam • Antwerp
Appearance
yellow crystalline powder
Melting point
≈ 558 °C
Density (25 °C)
≈ 5.7 g/mL

β‑AgI (wurtzite) at RT
Solubility
insoluble in H₂O; soluble in thiosulfate/ammonia (complex)
Silver iodide is highly photosensitive; handle under subdued light. For cloud seeding, AgI is often used as a fine aerosol generated from acetone solutions with NaI—see our solution grade.

Applications Packaging Storage & Handling
• Cloud seeding: AgI aerosol generation via burners/ground generators.
• Imaging R&D: photographic emulsions and detector studies.
• Materials research: ice nucleation, halide/ionic conductor studies.
• 100 g / 500 g / 1 kg amber glass bottles (PTFE‑lined caps) for powders.
• 20 L UN canisters (solution) • Small packs for R&D/QC.
• Protect from light and moisture; store 10–25 °C, tightly closed. Handle under subdued light.
• Avoid reducers/complexants that dissolve AgI unless intended. Solutions contain flammable solvent.
• Check regional regulations for weather modification materials.
Specs are representative; shipped material conforms to the COA for the lot. Regulatory permissions, transport class, and use conditions differ by market—confirm locally.
